Winter Skin Care by Kari Hoopes

Winter is very dry because freezing temperatures force the moisture in the air to freeze and fall to the ground.  The air wants to return to its normal level of moisture, so it draws more moisture from any readily available source.  Your warm skin is one of the best sources of moisture, so the atmosphere steals as much as it can take, leaving your skin dry and irritated, and you in desperate need of Winter Skin Care

The symptoms of dry, rough, flaky skin are all a result of the loss of moisture.  The body tries to compensate for this by bringing more moisture to the surface, but this can only be done if you are adequately hydrated and in good health, so have a proper diet and drink lots of water. It helps in transporting the nutrients to your skin cells. Avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks which cause dehydration and instead have vegetables rich in water like leafy vegetables.

Winter can make you and the body very lethargic. You can change all that if you give more attention to the food you eat such as warm and cooked meals, warm water, juices, light tea and some exercise can all be very helpful in taking care of your skin. Cleanse your face daily with your favorite cleanser every night which making your skin more supple and beautiful.

There are healthy fats which can be very beneficial for skin too.  These fats create a moisture barrier to minimize the amount of water lost from the skin, and also serve to soften and protect the skin.  It is also good to avoid activities that would expose your skin to the atmosphere, including taking frequent baths or  not keeping your hands and feet covered.  If you find your feet cracking, it is probably a good idea to get a premium body cream to protect your feet, but also make sure once you have applied lotion to your feet that you put on socks.

The key to winter skin care is reducing the amount of moisture lost by your skin.  This can be done by increasing the moisture in your home (such as running a humidifier), or by protecting your skin with natural oil based lotions (not mineral oil or petrolatum lotions), covering up, and staying hydrated.
